Iceland Epic Trip
Iceland! 🇮🇸 Five days of waterfalls, glaciers, ice caves, black sand beaches and the northern lights. This one was truly epic, and trips like this remind me why we chase these adventures as a family.
Day One: Waterfalls and Wide-Open Spaces
We kicked things off with coffee and hot chocolate, then hit the road. Our first stop was a tall waterfall tucked into a mossy green canyon, and the girls threw their arms up like they owned the place. Then we wandered out onto the moody black lava fields, with snowy mountains on the horizon and nobody else around.

The Glacier Lagoon
Next up was Jökulsárlón, the glacier lagoon, where giant chunks of electric-blue ice float out toward the sea. We walked the shoreline at sunset, picking up crystal-clear pieces of glacier ice washed up on the black sand. Unreal.

First Northern Lights and a Glacier Walk
That first night the sky lit up green right over our heads. 🌌 The next morning we bundled up (some of us still napping in the car) and headed out across the gravel plains toward the glacier, with the mountains glowing in the early light.

The Trek to the Ice Cave
Helmets on! We crossed little wooden bridges over glacier streams, watched the sunrise turn the sky gold, and scrambled over the rocks to the mouth of the ice cave.

Inside the Ice Cave
This was the highlight for all of us. Inside the glacier, the ice glowed the most incredible shades of blue, with frozen waterfalls and ceilings that looked like they were made of glass. We just kept staring up and saying, “Wow.” 💙

Diamond Beach
Back out in the daylight it was all big smiles and helmet selfies, then off to Diamond Beach, where chunks of glacier ice sparkle like diamonds on the black sand.

Northern Lights, Round Two
And then the sky put on another show. Green ribbons of light danced over the lodge, the mountains and the lagoon. We stood out in the cold with our necks craned back for as long as we could take it. Bucket list: checked. ✅

Riding Icelandic Horses
We spent an afternoon on horseback winding through snow-covered lava fields, and I still can’t get over how otherworldly it felt. The whole crew, kids included, handled those sturdy little Icelandic horses like pros, all the way into a gorgeous low winter sunset. 🐴

Reykjavík
We wrapped things up in Reykjavík with a stroll down the rainbow street, all the holiday lights, and of course the famous hot dogs at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur. 🌭 What a trip!
