Fourth of July in South Dakota 🇺🇸 | Mount Rushmore & Badlands National Park

We celebrated the Fourth of July with a road trip to South Dakota, and it was one of our favorite trips yet. Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Country USA, fireworks, the Badlands and of course Wall Drug. It was a great family adventure and the perfect way to spend Independence Day together.

Mount Rushmore

We started the Fourth of July morning at Mount Rushmore. Seeing it in person on Independence Day was something special, and the girls got their faces painted red, white and blue for the occasion.

Crazy Horse Memorial

Next up was the Crazy Horse Memorial. It is amazing to see the carving still in progress, and we caught a beautiful Native American dance performance. A bighorn sheep even came out to say hi on the drive.

Bear Country USA

Bear Country USA was a huge hit. We drove right past black bears, then watched the bear cubs climbing trees, playing with a tire and munching on watermelon.

Fourth of July Fireworks

We wrapped up the Fourth with a big fireworks show, then the next morning hit the famous Wall Drug Store.

Badlands National Park

The Badlands were incredible. We hiked out onto the colorful striped hills and soaked in the views that go on forever.

Wall Drug and the Road Home

Before heading home the girls rode the giant jackalope and the bucking bronco at Wall Drug, and we had a picnic lunch out of the back of the car.
